“The Guild” Screening – Sept 14

Screening: The Guild – Seasons 1 – 3
Start Time: 10 am

Join us at Happy Harbor Comics (10729-104 Ave) at 10 am on Saturday, Sept 14 for a screening of seasons 1 –  3 of The Guild. Thanks to Felicia Day and the wonderful folks at Geek & Sundry for providing permission to screen the series. Go subscribe to their channel and watch their awesomesauce shows immediately 😉

Admission is by cashy money donation. Throw a few loonies or twoonies (or more!) into the donation bin when you stop by to watch the screening. Help us reach the $4000 mark donated to Can’t Stop the Serenity (CSTS) in 2013!

For those keeping track at home, that means we’ll need to raise approximately $41 CAD on Saturday.

Can’t stay all day? Pop in and watch an episode or one to two seasons. Everyone is welcome to drop by to say hello.

Why aren’t we screening more seasons? Sadly, we’re hampered by the evils of time. Hopefully we’ll be able to gain permission to screen seasons 4-6 in the near future. Also, season 6 won’t be released until mid-October 2013.

This screening is a Can’t Stop the Serenity (CSTS) affiliate event. Proceeds will be split between our charity partners; Equality Now and YESS.

The Alberta Browncoats Society is sponsored by Canadian Historical Arms Society, Christie Communications, Happy Harbor Comics and Jay C. Noden Professional Corporation.

When you meet a wonderful photographer…

This post contains photos from our Can’t Stop the Serenity 2013 charity event on June 22nd (noon-5pm) at the Metro Cinema Society (Garneau Theatre; 8712 109 St, Edmonton).

Thanks to the wonderful Nanc Price for volunteering to spend the day with us and taking all these shiny pictures. Follow Nanc on twitter (@mad_me) and view her work on Flickr.

Most impressive? Over the past four years the Alberta Browncoats Society has donated $30,590.18 CAD to our partner charities. We may be small but we are very, very mighty!

Thank you so much to our 2013 Sponsors:

Special thanks to Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Joel Watson, James Marsters, Jason Palmer, Eddie McClintock, Jewel Staite, Wil Wheaton, Julie Christie Brown and Erin Gray for making our auction extra special this year.

Photos of the 2013 event will soon be online. While you wait for them to post, you can view photos of some of the items we auctioned off for charity.

To our auction donors, volunteers, knitters, and all attendees; we could not have done it with out you.

And finally, thank you Alberta Browncoats for being a part of this shiny event. We are looking forward to an amazing 2014.

Alberta Flood Relief

In light of the recent flooding in Southern and Central Alberta we have decided to add the Canadian Red Cross to the list of charities which will receive the proceeds of our Can’t Stop the Serenity event.

All proceeds from merchandize sold at Saturday’s events (hats, key chains, patches, etc.) and a portion of the silent and live auction item proceeds will be forwarded to the Alberta Floods Disaster Relief fund.

Spare change dropped into our Cashy Money bin will also be designated for the Red Cross.

Call for Volunteers

The Alberta Browncoats Society is a service organization. As such, we ask our members to complete 4 hours of community service each year. While many of our members quickly complete this commitment at events such as Homeless for a Night, working shifts at our convention booths, or designing tshirts and posters for our charity events, others meet their commitment through volunteering at the Can’t Stop the Serenity (CSTS) event.

We are looking for 6-10 volunteers willing to commit to assisting us in running our flagship charity event. This commitment will consist of attending one volunteer orientation meeting, assisting with the public poster campaign the week prior to the event and assisting with our live and silent auctions at the event. Volunteering for the CSTS team will ensure you meet (& possibly exceed) your annual volunteer requirements if you are a registered member of the Alberta Browncoats Society.

Not a registered member? No worries. We’d still love to have you help out.

We’re holding a CSTS volunteer orientation session on Wednesday June 12 at The Carrot (9351 118 Ave). The volunteer orientation will begin at 7pm and will be over before 9pm.  If you’d like to grab a snack or coffee, please come a few minutes early.

Once your orientation is over, feel free to hang out with other Browncoats as Wednesday is also our regularly scheduled knitting night.
