Join us from September 20-22nd at Edmonton Expo for a  weekend of fandom and fun. You can find us at booth #2504, across from the food court and not too far away from the ticketing hall and panel rooms.  Hop inside the doors and look to your right. You should be able to see Serenity once you walk through the doors..

You bring your wallets and we’ll bring a gorgeous Lego Serenity designed and built by Don Verrier, a new game to play, and lots of shiny goodies to spend your credits on.

As in previous years, we’ll accept payment in cashy monies, credit and debit and all proceeds from funds raised at the booth this year will be donated to Edmonton’s Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS.org) and the Women’s Emergency Accommodation Centre (e4c Alberta).

Sept 29, 2012 screening of “The Guild” (seasons 1-5)

Thanks to the generosity of Felicia Day, the Geek and Sundry* team, and Happy Harbor Comics, we will be hosting an all day (seasons 1-5) “The Guild” screening event on September 29, 2012 beginning at 10:30 am.

This screening is a Can’t Stop the Serenity (CSTS) affiliate event. Happy Harbor Comics (10729-104 Ave) has donated space for the screening.

Admission is by cashy money donation. Throw a few loonies or twoonies (or more!) into the donation bin when you stop by to watch the screening. In addition, we will have a few silent auction items and door prizes on hand for those in attendance. Proceeds will be split between our charity partners; Equality Now and YESS.org.

UPDATE [Aug 31, 2012]: Let’s take this fundraiser to the next level!  YESS is in urgent needs for a number of items for their shelter. As well as collecting cashy monies on Sept 29th, we’ll be collecting “in kind” donations.

Visit http://yess.org/get-involved/in-kind-donation/ to find a list of desperately needed items.  The page also contains a list of items that they cannot accept at this time. Please take time out of your busy day to look over the list to see if there is anything you may want to bring in.

Can’t stay all day? Pop in and watch an episode or one to two seasons. Everyone is welcome to drop by to say hello.

Geek & Sundry is the new home of “The Guild” and other fab content such as “Flog” (Felicia’s video blog), “Tabletop” (Wil Wheaton’s tabletop gaming show) and “Sword & Laser” (a Scifi/Fantasy book club).

AB Browncoats are participating in the YESS.org “Homeless for a Night” fundraiser

Youth Empowerment & Support Services

The Alberta Browncoats Society has decided to take their support of the Edmonton Youth Emergency Shelter Society (YESS) out of the comfort of the movie theatre and into TELUS field. Just a few short weeks before our Can’t Stop the Serenity fundraiser event, we’ll be participating in the Homeless for a Night event presented by the Canadian Western Bank.

Word on the cortex is that it’s going to be an experience of a lifetime.

As Browncoats, we’ve committed to “doing good in unexpected ways” and pledge our time, support, and lots of shiny cashy monies to organizations that focus on improving the lives of women and children world wide.

So, on June 1st, we’ve committed to stepping outside of our comfort zone and will “aim to misbehave” once again.

Long before that one night, our team banded together and set our fundraising goals high in order to challenge ourselves, but we would love to exceed this amount. Once we fulfill our fundraising goal, for one night, we will all venture outside of our comfort zones and become “homeless” at TELUS Field. That night we will hear some of the stories of the clients at YESS, we will gain more knowledge about homelessness and the youth that are in crisis in our community. Every dollar we raise goes towards YESS programs.

Help us shatter our fundraising goal by skipping one morning coffee this week & donating the cost to our team. $2 can make a difference! Make your pledge at http://www.gifttool.com/athon/OurTeamPage?ID=1312&AID=1880&TID=12122

Of course, donations over $10 come with a shiny Revenue Canada tax receipt.

And a huge thank you to everyone who has already supported our team. You help make the lives of teen’s shinier.

YESS.org Homeless for a Night

The Edmonton Youth Emergency Shelter Society, one of the charities we fundraise for at our CSTS, is holding their annual Homeless For a Night fundraiser on June 1, 2012.

There’s still time to join our team!

Go to https://www.gifttool.com/athon/SignUpMode?ID=1312&AID=1880 and select Join a Team. Type “Alberta Browncoats” in the team name field. Click Continue. Click Join Team and complete the registration process.

Each participant would be expected to raise $250 independently. Team members fundraising totals are averaged to determine ‘comfort levels’ at the event.

If you have any questions about joining our team, please email info@albertabrowncoats.com with your contact info.
