A Crew Worth Flying With
The Alberta Browncoats Society was a registered, volunteer-run, not-for-profit fan organization based in Edmonton, Alberta. Formed in 2009, the Society united local fans of Firefly and Serenity for community-building, charity fundraising, and fandom events.
Active through to October 2024, this shiny group of fans did something right — and left a mark on the Canadian Firefly fandom that no one's like to forget anytime soon.
If You Can't Do Something Smart…
Fifteen years of monthly meetups, charity knitting, Jayne hats, game days, and warm fandom spirit. The crew showed up at Comic and Pop-Culture conventions throughout Alberta, screened beloved episodes under the stars, and sponsored Browncoat groups across Canada and the US.

Firefly is Coming Back
Nathan Fillion and the rest of the shiny crew officially announced that a new Firefly animated series is in development — revealed live on March 15, 2026 during a Once We Were Spacemen podcast taping at Awesome Con. Most of the original cast will return.
The revival is being developed through Fillion's production banner Collision33 in partnership with 20th Television Animation, with showrunners Marc Guggenheim and Tara Butters attached and early concept art already completed by ShadowMachine.
Fillion confirmed the series takes place between the original 2002 run and Serenity (2005) — and encouraged fans to boost visibility and engagement to help secure a streaming home.
What Now?
The brilliant minds behind the 2006 Browncoat Backup Bash and several Firefly fan-groups are working on a plan to boost the signal. Stay tuned for shiny updates in the days to come.
