Sept 29, 2012 screening of “The Guild” (seasons 1-5)

Thanks to the generosity of Felicia Day, the Geek and Sundry* team, and Happy Harbor Comics, we will be hosting an all day (seasons 1-5) “The Guild” screening event on September 29, 2012 beginning at 10:30 am.

This screening is a Can’t Stop the Serenity (CSTS) affiliate event. Happy Harbor Comics (10729-104 Ave) has donated space for the screening.

Admission is by cashy money donation. Throw a few loonies or twoonies (or more!) into the donation bin when you stop by to watch the screening. In addition, we will have a few silent auction items and door prizes on hand for those in attendance. Proceeds will be split between our charity partners; Equality Now and YESS.org.

UPDATE [Aug 31, 2012]: Let’s take this fundraiser to the next level!  YESS is in urgent needs for a number of items for their shelter. As well as collecting cashy monies on Sept 29th, we’ll be collecting “in kind” donations.

Visit http://yess.org/get-involved/in-kind-donation/ to find a list of desperately needed items.  The page also contains a list of items that they cannot accept at this time. Please take time out of your busy day to look over the list to see if there is anything you may want to bring in.

Can’t stay all day? Pop in and watch an episode or one to two seasons. Everyone is welcome to drop by to say hello.

Geek & Sundry is the new home of “The Guild” and other fab content such as “Flog” (Felicia’s video blog), “Tabletop” (Wil Wheaton’s tabletop gaming show) and “Sword & Laser” (a Scifi/Fantasy book club).

It’s over. Whaaaa!

Our screening was amazing this year. 156 excited Browncoats and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog fans were in attendance. Four had never seen Serenity before!

We’re still waiting on our final tally but know it will be great thanks to a last minute shot out and auction item donation from the Captain himself on Friday.

We do anticipate it will be lower than last year since we had a venue switch and also added the extra costs of having the 35mm print couriered to and from Toronto. Was worth every penny to see that print on the big screen again!

Will post final numbers as soon as we have them. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who supported the event, came out on the day, bid on auction items, and shared laughter and tears with us. 2012 was a wonderful year and we’re looking forward to 2013!

Found: 1 Camera

A camera was left behind on one of the tables on Saturday. After announcing that we’d found the camera a few times no one stepped forward to claim it. We suspect the owner may have already left as the event was wrapping up and auctions were over.

The camera has been left with the Metro staff.  The owner should contact the metro@metrocinema.org – to make arrangements to pick up their camera. Be prepared to describe the camera (make/model) and perhaps some of the photos on it.

Can’t Stop The Serenity events are held on (or around) June 23, which is writer / director Joss Whedon’s birthday, through the Serenity Release Anniversary, September 30.

Proceeds from the Edmonton event are divided between Equality Now, Kids Need to Read, and the Edmonton Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) (formerly the Youth Emergency Shelter Society).

Advance ticket sales are now closed. Don’t fret, you can still get your ticket from the Garneau Theatre box office beginning at 11:45am on Saturday, June 23rd.

The CSTS 2012 Global design Tshirt and hoodies pre-sale is now closed in Edmonton. We happily sold a number of these items to our lovely supporters and fans of Firefly around the province of Alberta. We will have a very limited number of tshirts available for purchase at our CSTS event in Edmonton. First come, first serve.

Thank you to everyone who managed to get their pre-orders in by the deadline.

CSTS 2012 – Event Parking

Everyone in Edmonton knows that parking is limited near the Garneau Theatre. The Garneau School (10925 – 87 Avenue) has graciously offered us use of their parking lot for Can’t Stop the Serenity. Parking passes will be distributed by volunteers when you arrive at the lot beginning at 11:55am until 12:25pm. Passes are valid until 5pm.

If you arrive at the event after 12:25pm, please ask for a parking pass at the ticket office and place the pass in your vehicle immediately.

Parking is at a premium at Garneau School. There are limited numbers of spaces for visitor parking in the east parking lot and the numbered spaces are designated staff parking only. There are two areas on 86 Avenue that are designated bus zones where parking is not allowed during the day.

If the lot is full when you arrive, please use the street parking (read the signs carefully as times vary) or the limited spaces marked ‘visitor’ in the West lot. Guests are advised to be careful not to park in designated EMERGENCY PARKING AREAS in the east and west parking lot.
